Terms of Service

These terms are the agreement between you and PrivyPIN for use of the PrivyPIN app and call-screening service. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to them, so please read them.

Important: PrivyPIN is not a phone line and is not for emergency calls. Never rely on it to reach 911 or other emergency services — always place emergency calls directly.

1. What PrivyPIN is

PrivyPIN is a call-screening service. It works alongside your existing phone number: your mobile carrier forwards the calls you don't answer to a PrivyPIN screening line, where unknown callers are asked to enter your 3-digit PIN before the call rings you back. Trusted callers you've added ring through directly, and callers who don't enter your PIN can leave a voicemail you play in the app.

2. What you need to use it

  • An iPhone and an active plan with a carrier that supports conditional call forwarding.
  • The ability to turn on your phone's "Silence Unknown Callers" setting and save the PrivyPIN access number as a contact.
  • A valid phone number you control, used to create and verify your account.

Screening only works while call forwarding is correctly set up on your device. PrivyPIN can't control your carrier's network, and setup steps vary by carrier.

3. Your account

You sign in with your phone number and a one-time code. You're responsible for keeping access to that number and for keeping your PIN private — anyone who knows your PIN can ring through your screening. You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority where you live, to use PrivyPIN.

4. Subscriptions and billing

  • PrivyPIN is a paid subscription: $3.99 per month or $34.99 per year (prices may change with notice, and founding-member pricing may differ).
  • Subscriptions are billed through your Apple App Store account and renew automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
  • You manage or cancel your subscription in your App Store account settings. Deleting the app alone does not cancel a subscription.
  • Refunds are handled by Apple under the App Store's terms.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to use PrivyPIN to:

  • Break any law, or infringe anyone's rights.
  • Harass, defraud, or deceive callers.
  • Record conversations unlawfully. PrivyPIN records only voicemail, after the caller is told to leave a message — you're responsible for following the recording-consent laws where you and your callers are located.
  • Resell, sublicense, or provide the service to third parties.
  • Reverse engineer, disrupt, or attempt to gain unauthorized access to the service.

6. Third-party services

PrivyPIN depends on your mobile carrier and on our telephony provider to carry and screen calls. Their networks, availability, and fees are outside our control, and standard carrier charges may apply to codes you dial. We're not responsible for outages, delays, or charges caused by those services.

7. Not for emergencies

PrivyPIN is a screening layer, not a replacement for your phone service, and must never be used to place or receive emergency calls. Because screening depends on carrier forwarding and network conditions, calls may occasionally be delayed or missed. Always dial emergency services directly and keep another way to be reached available.

8. Service changes and availability

We may add, change, or remove features, and we may suspend or discontinue the service. We aim to give reasonable notice of significant changes, but we don't guarantee the service will always be available or uninterrupted.

9. Disclaimers

The service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement, to the fullest extent permitted by law. We don't warrant that screening will block every unwanted call or deliver every wanted one.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, PrivyPIN and its suppliers will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for any missed calls, lost voicemails, or lost opportunities arising from your use of — or inability to use — the service. Our total liability for any claim will not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.

11. Termination

You may stop using PrivyPIN and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these terms. When your account ends, your data is deleted as described in our Privacy Policy.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Continuing to use PrivyPIN after a change means you accept the updated terms.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state in which PrivyPIN operates, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
